Cultural Ambassador

This role presents a unique opportunity for an Indigenous Liaison Officer to serve as a bridge between St Gerard Majella students, staff and families.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, promoting, and maintaining communication networks between First Nations and Torres Strait Islanders students, parents/guardians, the community and the school.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote knowledge and understanding of First Nations and Torres Strait Islander histories, languages, and cultures within the school.
- Promote respect and harmony through cultural awareness and education initiatives.
- Support First Nations and Torres Strait Islander students with learning and engagement to support improved learning outcomes.
Collaboration with school staff and the Principal is essential in this role. Catholic Education, Diocese of Cairns, considers that being First Nations or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under sub-25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
Therefore, it is a requirement that applicants/appointees must be of First Nations or Torres Strait Islander descent and that they identify as a First Nations and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
