Financial Reporting Specialist

Job Description:

As a Financial Reporting Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial data for the Inland Rail Program. This involves preparing monthly reports, analyzing variances and trends, and providing insightful management information to support business decisions.

You will work closely with enabling team leads and delivery supports to ensure that financial data is accurate, complete, and compliant with corporate finance processes. Your expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting will help drive value through strong financial insights and business partnering.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare Monthly Reports: Accurately and timely prepare monthly reports for projects and functional areas within the Inland Rail Program, including variance and trend analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  2. Facilitate Reporting Process: Oversee and facilitate the collection and processing of all inputs to the monthly reporting process, including accruals, transfer journals, scope changes, forecasts, and budgets.
  3. Review Expenditure Variance: Regularly review areas of major expenditure and variances to budget, providing reconciliations and improvement suggestions to relevant finance managers, function managers, and project managers.
  4. Support Transactional Services: Provide accounting and transactional support to finance managers and functional managers, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  1. Tertiary Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in accounting or a related discipline, such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the Australian Society of CPA's.
  2. Professional Experience: Relevant experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost functions within a commercial organization.
  3. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and business partnering skills, with advanced verbal and written communication abilities.
  4. Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of spreadsheets, large automated accounting systems, and complex financial information systems.
