Job Summary:

The Senior Visual Effects Artist is responsible for delivering high-level visual effects with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend dailies and follow up with team leads regarding notes, fixes, and feedback.
  • Work with broad stroke notes and define looks for key events and shots.
  • Hit given notes while being proactive in offering suggestions and alternate approaches.
  • Consistently prepare with visual references on hand when seeking feedback.
  • Provide artistic feedback to other visual effects artists.
  • Assist in creating generic scripts and templates for other artists.
  • Estimate tasks for production and scheduling.
  • Work across departmental lines to develop techniques and efficiencies for assigned shots and sequences.
  • Balance own shot work and actively mentor less-experienced artists.
  • Promote productivity enhancements in the current pipeline and work practices.
  • Collaborate with management and show supervision to maintain strong morale, flag communication issues, and escalate problems.
  • Help others troubleshoot shots and set-ups.
  • Take ownership of work and offer solutions, efficiencies, and "pluses" for look and technique.
  • Stay up-to-date with current trends and tools in the industry.
  • Organize shows and tells to share tips and tricks among the team.
  • Mentor and provide feedback for junior members, including performance reviews.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Excellent artistic eye with experience in making shots "look cool".
  • Keen eye and attention to detail for reviewing roto/paint shots.
  • Technically proficient in performing all roto/paint tasks with Silhouette and Nuke.
  • Displays advanced skill in hand-painting techniques using Silhouette.
  • Strong proficiency in multi-element integration and edge work.
  • Demonstrates a strong proficiency with complex roto and paint work.
  • Demonstrates ability to establish novel techniques.
  • Knowledge of photography, composition, lighting, color, and motion.
  • Specific knowledge of layering math and trade-offs of filtering techniques in relation to sharpness and noise/grain.
  • Solid understanding of the image pipeline from capture to delivery.
