Job Title: Aboriginal Youth Engagement Professional

Role Summary:

The Aboriginal Youth Engagement Professional will work with Aboriginal young people and their families to address issues affecting at-risk behaviors and assist them in accessing relevant government and non-government services for better life outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide case management to Aboriginal young people and their families, assessing and responding to individual and complex needs and facilitating positive experiences.
  • Engage with Aboriginal young people and their families to work together to address issues affecting at-risk behaviors and assist them to access relevant government and non-government services for better life outcomes.
  • Support partnerships with the local community to identify issues contributing to offending by Aboriginal young people and develop diversionary local responses, particularly in high-risk locations.
  • Work in partnership to deliver services that are welcoming and focus on restorative practice principles.
  • Collaborate with the community to deliver programs and activities for Aboriginal young people, including recreational, cultural, educational and other activities.
  • Communicate across government and non-government organisations, families, communities and with individual clients to strengthen support in managing key issues.
  • Develop case plans and assessments incorporating culturally appropriate goals and information.
  • Identify clients with complex needs requiring further assistance and referral.
  • Work in a culturally appropriate manner with community, kin and family to achieve outcomes for the young person.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case file information for clients and other organisational records.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Aboriginal Youth Engagement Professional must have a strong understanding of the needs of Aboriginal young people and their families, as well as the ability to communicate effectively across different cultures and communities. They must also be able to work collaboratively with other professionals and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

Some out-of-hours work may be required. Inter and intra-state travel may be required. The successful applicant will be required to hold a National Police Check and satisfactorily complete an Employment-related Screening Check. A Working with Children Check will also be required prior to being employed. Evidence of completion of Child Safe Environments for Children and Young People full-day training course or evidence of enrolment will be necessary. A current Australian-issued Driver's Licence is also required and must be maintained.
