Job Description:

The Manager Public Policy and Government Relations is a key leadership role responsible for developing and executing BHP's public policy and government relations strategy in Queensland. The successful candidate will lead a team to anticipate and manage risks, advance strategic interests, and foster strong relationships with government officials, elected representatives, and policy stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement public policy and government relations strategies aligned with asset and organisational priorities
  • Monitor and analyse political, policy, and regulatory developments to inform advocacy and campaign planning
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with political stakeholders, government officials, and policy influencers at state and national levels
  • Represent BHP in high-level forums, advocating for outcomes that support business success and social value creation
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel to Asset leadership on political, policy, and regulatory matters
  • Lead and coach the Public Policy and Government Relations team in QLD, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting professional development

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a politically astute and policy-minded leader with a proven track record in government relations, advocacy, and strategic engagement. They will possess deep expertise in navigating complex political and regulatory environments, with the ability to influence outcomes through relationships, evidence, and timing.

Desirable Qualifications:

A tertiary qualification in public policy, economics, political science, law, or commerce would be advantageous. However, we are open to candidates from diverse backgrounds who can demonstrate relevant experience and skills.
