About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Metallurgical Technician to join our team at Fortescue's Detrital Pilot Plant. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in supporting the commissioning and operation of our Feed Preparation Plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to Process Engineers for the commissioning and operation of the Feed Preparation Plant, including Wet Scrubbing, Crushing, and Wet Screening.
- Review and understand process plant flowsheets, as well as sampling practices and principles.
- Operate mobile equipment such as telehandlers, Front End Loaders, and Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs).
- Operate large-scale Rotary Sample Dividers.
- Accurately record and collate sample/operational data during sample preparation and pilot plant operations.
- Ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards while undertaking site sampling, labeling, and preparation of samples.
- Prepare samples for submission to laboratories onsite and externally, including drying, moisture content analysis, screening, wet screening, settling tests, particle size distribution (PSD) analysis, and splitting of dry samples and slurry samples.
- Contribute to the pilot plant project through continuous improvement and innovation.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of minerals processing and the plant and equipment used.
- 3-5 years' experience as a Metallurgical Technician in a minerals processing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of accuracy when collecting, recording, and maintaining data and relevant documentation.
- Telehandler operation experience is essential.
- Diploma in Laboratory Practices is highly regarded.
- Ideal candidates will have formal qualifications in EWP, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Gantry/Overhead Crane, Isolations, and Front End Loader operation.
- You will be someone who looks for and takes advantage of opportunities to learn and develop new skills.
