The post holder is expected to provide expert physiotherapy services, lead clinical practice, manage resources, and engage in continuous professional development.
1. Specialist Physiotherapy Services- Maintain advanced specialist skills and provide guidance on related matters.
- Organize and prioritize workload, supervising and mentoring junior staff as needed.
- Screen, prioritize, and plan interventions for routine and urgent referrals within the specialist area.
- Exercise sound clinical judgment to allocate patients effectively, leveraging resources efficiently.
- Undertake holistic assessments, utilizing analytical and clinical reasoning skills to diagnose patient conditions accurately, selecting appropriate treatments and implementing rehabilitation programs.
- Manage crisis intervention and document clinical records, auditing supervisees' documentation to ensure compliance with standards.
- Establish empathetic relationships with patients and carers, ensuring their understanding and cooperation in rehabilitation.
- Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis, treatment aims, and outcomes to patients and carers, using various techniques to overcome barriers.
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers to optimize rehabilitation potential and promote understanding of patient conditions.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, referring patients and providing comprehensive physiotherapy assessments and treatments.
- Take delegated responsibility for managing patients with specific conditions, providing expertise in designated areas.
- Ensure professional and legal accountability for all aspects of work, including patient management.
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary services.
- Participate in clinical governance procedures, recording incidents, reporting, and first-line complaint management.
- Deputize for senior therapists in operational matters when required.
- Develop a team profile, participating in recruitment, selection, induction, and retention processes to maintain an optimal skill mix.
- Monitor and review individual and team performance, addressing capability issues and contributing to service provision.
- Formally supervise junior staff, allocating tasks and ensuring safe equipment use.
- Collect relevant data and statistics for departmental use.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, attending courses, achieving appraisal objectives, and maintaining a professional portfolio.
- Participate in staff appraisals and Personal Development Plans, taking an active role in training and reflective practice.
- Contribute to identifying personal development needs annually, aligning with the Trust's appraisal scheme.
- Develop self-awareness of interpersonal skills in relation to cultural values and beliefs.
- Maintain registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and adhere to professional codes.
