About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Studies Lead to join our Research, Development & Studies Team in Rio Tinto Iron Ore. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading, planning, and coordinating important mine development, infrastructure, and/or closure studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate a selection of important mine development, infrastructure, and/or closure studies, varying in range of complexity.
  • Integrate contributions from our company experts to optimise study outcomes.
  • Identify critical study issues and opportunities and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and support project business cases in line with the business strategy.
  • Identify and manage key internal and external stakeholders to generate good outcomes.
  • Produce reports and present outcomes while getting exposure to a variety of business partners and leaders.
  • Motivate and inspire the team to meet study objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • An understanding of strategic drivers for a study and a background in either Engineering, Technical, Finance, Operational Readiness, or similar.
  • Experience in successfully leading a complex piece of work requiring the coordination of a large, multi-disciplinary team, exercising of communication and influencing skills for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience with compiling reports with multiple inputs, an ability to manage large budgets along with a good understanding of financial modelling.
