Senior Academic Position in Surgery

We are seeking a highly skilled and accomplished academic to fill a senior position in surgery.


About the Role:

This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary leader to drive excellence in innovative teaching, research, and engagement within the discipline of surgery. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across all clinical campuses and with external partners to integrate teaching, research, and clinical care.

The role requires a proven track record of driving high-quality surgical education, leading impactful research, and contributing to curriculum design and delivery in alignment with our academic standards. The appointee will mentor staff and students, supervise Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates, and contribute to governance through active participation in committees and leadership groups.

The ideal candidate will possess a medical qualification registrable in New South Wales, specialist training in a surgical discipline, and a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent. A higher degree in a relevant discipline area is desirable as is an outstanding research record, including significant external research funding and publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals.


Key Responsibilities:
  • To develop and implement innovative teaching strategies that enhance student learning outcomes and satisfaction
  • To lead and manage research projects that achieve national and international recognition
  • To contribute to the development of curriculum and assessment methods that meet the needs of the profession
  • To provide mentoring and coaching to staff and students to enhance their research and educational capabilities
