Job Title: Lead Lighting Professional

We are seeking an experienced and skilled professional to lead our lighting team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of work is delivered efficiently.

Your primary focus will be on developing and supporting consistent workflows within your department, utilising the right tools and technology to achieve this goal. You will also be accountable for helping define these workflows and approaches to maximise efficiency across all shows.

You will play a crucial role in designing and setting standards for our Lighting Pipeline, enabling your team to create exceptional work with optimised processes. Engaging in the creative process with a positive attitude, you will demonstrate excellent aesthetic judgement and problem-solving skills.

In close collaboration with other Heads of Departments, you will be responsible for communication on behalf of the Lighting team, acting as a point of contact for collaboration and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency on an ongoing basis. This will involve working closely with colleagues across different departments and shows.

Diligent line management of your team, including Supervisors, is a core aspect of this role. You will conduct probationary reviews, annual appraisals, performance management, and succession planning, while also hiring for your team when necessary. You will provide mentorship and guidance to help develop your team members and realise their potential.

Key Requirements:
  • Deep understanding of lighting within visual effects for high-end film and television.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the VFX industry.
  • Sigificant supervision and/or management experience in the VFX industry.
  • Previous experience in line management.
  • Extensive knowledge of rendering software such as Clarisse, Arnold, and/or Katana.
  • Superb problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative.
  • Experience in project management, prioritising tasks efficiently, and estimating time accurately.
  • Coaching and mentoring artists in new techniques and efficiencies.
  • Excellent technical skills.
  • Talent to influence and build strong working relationships within an organisation.
Desirable Skills:
  • Previous knowledge of the DNEG pipeline.
  • Experience in Python and general programming.
  • Maya and/or equivalent 3D software knowledge.
  • Previous experience working in or with development teams.
