
Parks and Gardens Attendant

As a Parks and Gardens Attendant Casual, you will be responsible for maintaining the Council's parks and gardens to a high level of presentation. You will operate grounds keeping and gardening tools and equipment effectively and efficiently, following Safe Work Method Statements and manufacturer's instructions.
You will provide general laboring, maintenance, and garbage collection services at Council's parks, gardens, plantations, and sporting facilities. This includes undertaking garden labor duties such as tidying, weeding, spraying, fertilizing, and mulching of garden areas and streetscapes.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with maintenance and installation of irrigation systems and equipment, assisting with Council's tree management program, including establishment and maintenance, operating plant effectively and efficiently, using and maintaining tools and equipment to complete tasks effectively and efficiently, assisting with garden and landscape maintenance and construction, clearing and removing vegetation, rubbish, and debris from thoroughfares, roadsides, and streets, setting up/dismantling and marking out sporting fields and ovals, manually collecting and emptying rubbish bins, including sharps disposal units, controlling traffic at worksites, completing required workplace records, maintaining worksite/workplace tidiness and cleanliness, attending to maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of Council assets as directed, operating Council plant and equipment as directed and to the level of training and licensing achieved, responding to emergency situations as requested, undertaking training to update, maintain, and advance personal skill levels and in compliance with relevant workplace legislation, responding to inquiries from members of the public and providing information within scope of responsibility, carrying out other duties within the bounds of the level of responsibility of this position as instructed by management, complying with Council's Model Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures, and management directives, and committing to EEO, diversity, and merit-based selection principles.
This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The successful applicant will have a proven ability to operate small plant such as mowers and tractors, experience in small plant operation and gardening/laboring duties, and WHS Construction Induction (NSW White card), Chemical Handling Certification AQF 3 (e.g., ChemCert, SMARTtrain), basic literacy and numeracy skills to follow written communication and complete standard forms, demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment. Possession of a Driving Licence Class C (Car) or P (Provisional) and RMS Traffic Controller Certification (Blue Card or equivalent) is desirable.
