
Protection & Control Systems Specialist

Our team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Protection & Control Systems Specialist to join our growing organization.
This role involves ensuring the proper functioning and reliability of protection and control systems within our electrical distribution power system. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting secondary protection relays, control systems, and primary network equipment, as well as high voltage underground cables and distribution field ground and pole top devices.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
- Performing diagnostic testing and maintenance services on a wide variety of electrical protection and control relays and equipment.
- Analyzing and troubleshooting protection system faults and malfunctions to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Conducting repairs & maintenance on field distribution ground and pole top devices.
- Participating in the commissioning of new protection and control equipment, ensuring that it meets design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Verifying the integration of protection devices with overall power system infrastructure.
- Generating detailed reports documenting the performance of protection and control systems.
- Coordinating testing activities with internal and external customers.
- Preparing work records and reports as required, including input into databases and work hours/daily work records.
- Adhering to safety guidelines and protocols while working with high-voltage equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations related to protection and control systems.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess an Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems or an equivalent qualification. Strong technical knowledge and experience working across power systems related secondary, primary, and distribution equipment is essential. Proficiency in using relay testing equipment such as power system simulators, as well as primary test equipment, is also required.
You will need to demonstrate effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Exercise decisiveness in ensuring network security and public safety is also crucial. Ability to compare information from different sources to draw conclusions, and select an appropriate course of action, is necessary for this role.
