About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior Sous Chef to join our team at Holiday Inn. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and kitchen efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to plan and execute menus that meet or exceed the restaurant's standards for taste, presentation, and quality.
  • Oversee and coordinate daily kitchen activities, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
  • Assist in the training, supervision, and motivation of kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes, techniques, and safety guidelines.
  • Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and maintain appropriate stock of ingredients, ensuring minimal wastage.
  • Participate in the creation and development of new dishes, while keeping up-to-date with culinary trends and innovations.
  • Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and in working order; report any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Uphold strict hygiene and sanitation standards in compliance with local health regulations, promoting a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Monitor and control portion sizes and plate presentation to ensure consistency and minimize food cost.
  • Assist in cost control measures by implementing efficient kitchen practices and minimizing food waste.
  • Support the Head Chef in scheduling kitchen staff and coordinating work shifts to maintain optimal coverage during peak hours.
  • Step into the role of the Head Chef during their absence, overseeing all kitchen operations and managing the team effectively.
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure a smooth flow of service, address guest feedback, and maintain a positive dining experience.

Requirements

  • Excellent Service skills.
  • Fitness – you'll be on your feet most of the day with lots of bending and kneeling.
  • Strength – sometimes you'll need to lift, push or pull big objects like barrels & crates up to 23 kg.
  • Compliant – as well as meeting local laws on food handling and serving alcohol, you'll be above the minimum age required and fluent in the local language.
  • Articulate – a great communicator, you'll be warm, welcoming and easy to talk to.
  • Flexible – night, weekend and holiday shifts are all part of the job.
  • Experienced – you'll know how to prepare a wide range of drinks. Ideally with formal bartending training.
  • Literate – you'll need a good grasp of reading, writing and basic maths.
  • Communicator – Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with colleagues.
