The Opportunity
We're seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Queensland, offering flexible working arrangements and locations across Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast. This role provides the perfect blend of technical expertise, client communication, and teamwork.
In this position, you'll:
- Lead geotechnical aspects on project teams, ensuring best practices are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Scope and deliver geotechnical projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and quality control.
- Plan and supervise site investigations, borehole drilling, in-situ testing, sampling, and monitoring.
- Perform geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, liquefaction assessment, seismic response, foundation design, earth retaining structures, ground improvement solutions, and pavements.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, feasibility studies, design documents, and specifications.
- Identify geotechnical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Nurture client relationships, attend meetings, and provide geotechnical advice and presentations.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Ensure all geotechnical activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, software, and methods in geotechnical engineering.
Required Skills and Qualifications
You'll be able to demonstrate:
- A great attitude to teamwork, collaboration, and communication, with a willingness to grow and learn.
- A Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Geology (Master's degree preferred).
- Chartered or Professional Engineer status (or eligibility) is highly desirable.
- Approximately 5-10 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, ideally in consulting, infrastructure, or construction projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in ground investigation, geotechnical analysis, and design of foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures.
- Experience in soft-soil investigation and design for South-East Queensland conditions or rock investigation and logging for deep infrastructure projects.
- Awareness and some growing experience in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Slope/W, Settle3D, LPILE, gINT, or equivalent).
- Strong report writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects, budgets, and teams.
- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
