The Faculty of Science Engineering and the Built Environment is dedicated to fostering cutting-edge research and discovery. The Institute for Frontier Materials focuses on solution-driven research, collaborating with industry and government to apply findings in practice.

Research Opportunities
  • We are seeking emerging researchers keen to explore and build on new areas in physical metallurgy, under the framework of an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded Laureate Fellowship.
  • The focus of this Fellowship is to develop deeper metallurgical understanding via characterization and modelling to underpin the design of alloys with smaller societal footprints.

Three roles are available to address specific sub-projects:

  • Design cross-blend alloys for the recycling of Al alloys and stainless steel streams.
  • Measure and model the twinning stress in austenitic stainless steels and HEAs as a function of composition using high throughput techniques.
  • Integrate time and spatial resolution in dynamic Laue diffraction experiments on new alloys.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality research generating high impact outputs.
  • Engage collaboratively to participate in novel research activities.
  • Communicate outputs and ensure impact on the field and community.
  • Support and lead applications for funding.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Emerging research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions.
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish good working relationships.
