Job Summary

Elevate your career in our vehicle maintenance team. We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Melbourne Airport.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled diesel mechanic to utilize their trade qualification, diagnostic skills and commitment to customer service excellence in a dynamic environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the roadworthiness of our large fleet of specialized trucks, conducting regular inspections and repairs as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting and test driving vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure safe and proper functioning
  • Conducting thorough brake system checks, steering mechanism inspections and wheel bearing evaluations
  • Troubleshooting fuel, ignition and emissions control systems using electronic diagnostics
  • Tuning engines for optimal performance and efficiency
  • Repairing or replacing defective parts
  • Scheduling routine maintenance activities
  • Installing or repairing air conditioning systems and servicing components such as compressors, condensers and controls
  • Managing spare parts inventory and updating the vehicle maintenance system
  • Coordinating services and repairs with external contractors or service providers to minimize business impact
  • Providing on-call support for breakdowns outside regular working hours
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in a similar position, preferably with diesel vehicles
  • Trade qualifications in mechanics
  • A Heavy Rigid License or ability to obtain one
  • Advanced diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency (MS Excel and Word)
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and overtime as required
  • A valid Police Check clearance
