Waste Coordinator Job Summary

This role is responsible for ensuring waste compliance at our Sort Center in Craigieburn, Northern Melbourne.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Characterize and determine regulated and hazardous waste, ensuring accurate classification, storage, segregation, labeling, documentation, and shipment in accordance with local state regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain physical organization of the waste storage area, safety equipment, and ensure compliance with Australian regulations and Amazon network policies.
  • Log and containerize all regulated and hazardous wastes using a digital waste reporting tool.
  • Raise requests for additional containers, labels, and supplies to maintain proper stock levels.
  • Coordinate waste collection, including scheduling and follow-up on paperwork for each consignment of waste.
  • Maintain and upload shipment documents to a shared folder and digital waste reporting tool.
  • Conduct site-based environmental inspections, identifying gaps and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve effective environmental management.
  • Liaise with WHS, Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, Inbound Support Services, Vendor Returns, and Facilities teams for hazardous chemical management and waste generation.
  • Support monthly waste inventory and identify necessary shipping frequencies to comply with accumulation requirements.
  • Work with WHS, Operations, ICQA, Vendor Returns, and Customer Returns teams to set up a Products Awaiting Determination Staging Area.
  • Provide regular environmental updates and visibility of Environmental Performance status and requirements.
  • Complete training on the digital waste reporting tool and AU Hazardous Waste Procedure.
  • Research trends, inventory loss, and cost reduction efforts where applicable.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Science.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with managers and associates at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 Kg, stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach.
  • Experience in a fulfillment/distribution center environment.
  • Knowledge in waste classification, segregation, and state-based waste regulatory requirements.
