About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team at Western Power. As a key member of our Legal Services team, you will provide high-quality legal advice and support to ensure the effective implementation of our operational activities, business strategies, and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice to various areas of Western Power, ensuring compliance with sound legal risk management and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead a range of legal matters, including safety, human resources, property, commercial, and regulatory issues.
  • Support the Managing Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel in providing legal, governance, and company secretary support to the organization.
  • Manage the drafting and negotiation of commercial documents and contracts, including third-party relationships.
  • Prepare instructions and briefs for external lawyers and work collaboratively with them to achieve effective outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law from a common law jurisdiction.
  • Admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of WA and holding a current practising certificate.
  • Expertise in a broad range of legal matters, including electricity and energy, commercial contracts, construction law, compliance, and policy.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize large volumes of work and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide practical advice by applying legal concepts to a commercial business.
  • Demonstrated commercial and business focus, high level of integrity, and professionalism.
