The APS seeks a highly skilled APS 6 Security Advisor to join the EWIS-Maritime SPO team based in Russell, ACT. As an integral part of this team, you will engage with stakeholders, investigate, report, develop, evaluate, advise, and implement policies, processes, procedures, practices, and manage resources specific to assurance and data specifications to support Defence capability.

You will collaborate with a team that ensures complex projects adhere to compliance and legislative frameworks through effective decision-making and excellent time management. The role supports the management of highly classified SPO assets and conducts audits and assurance activities to maintain security posterity by all personnel handling classified assets and materials.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Independently identifying, researching, and analysing complex protective security issues and providing recommendations and advice;
  • Collating, researching, and analysing complex Defence security issues to produce high-quality reports, submissions, briefings, and discussion papers;
  • Developing, implementing, and administering governance documentation suites and associated auditable artefacts;
  • Managing Security Incidents;
  • Presenting security briefings and shaping security cultures, including coordinating and conducting security training EWIS-Maritime SPO;
  • Coordinating and responding to Branch security enquiries and tasking's;
  • Collating, researching, and analysing protective security issues to produce high-quality reports, submissions, briefings, and discussion papers.

The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment to achieve business outcomes and be accountable for contributing towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

About our Team

EWIS-Maritime SPO currently manages various electronic warfare systems fitted to both the surface and sub-surface fleet, such as the Nulka Decoy product and several Sensors and Electronic Attack products in both acquisition and sustainment phases. The SPO delivers these capabilities to both the Australian Defence Force and United States Navy.

EWIS-Maritime SPO is widely dispersed across Australia, with this position based at Russell, ACT. The successful applicant will participate in an integrated team, including APS, military, and contractor staff, to ensure supported Electronic Warfare capabilities are delivered to the ADF and met according to operational and compliance requirements and service agreements.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced security professional with an in-depth knowledge of Government Security requirements and frameworks.

  • Experience working in Security or similar roles to provide detailed security, technical, professional advice to support the achievement of EWIS Maritime outcomes;
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide advice on security incidents that aligns with the Defence Security Policy Framework (DSPF);
  • Experience and understanding of Security Governance frameworks, policy, and procedures to provide advice and guidance to stakeholders;
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders;
  • Proactive nature and ability to anticipate issues in the capability or with stakeholders;
  • An ability to work in a small or large teams or autonomously as required, setting work priorities and managing workflows and ensuring your team remains informed.
