About Mt Arthur Coal
Mt Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Our mine is located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, and is the largest producer of energy coal in the region.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mine Geologist to join our team. As a Mine Geologist, you will play a critical role in supporting the site's production, planning, project, CHPP, environmental and closure needs through the timely delivery of geology information and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide geological support to the site operational teams;
- Conduct geological pit inspections and structural mapping;
- Update 3D models of coal seams and geological features;
- Develop production models to support through seam loading and blasting;
- Undertake geological data collection, interpretation, validation and reconciliation;
- Provide input into mine plans and designs and collaborate with Grade Control Engineers, Survey, Geotech and Production;
- Seek to minimise coal loss and dilution through regular and proactive pit presence and the development of accurate geological plans;
- Continuously improve procedures and processes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Tertiary Education in Geology;
- A valid Australia Driver's Licence;
- Operational experience in open cut coal mining is advantageous;
- Exposure to geological modelling;
- Knowledge of coal mining, structural geology and coal flow;
- Experience with Vulcan, Geobank and Plexer is advantageous;
- Experience with and understanding of coal quality.
