Key Responsibilities
  • Create and nurture a positive culture of innovation, encouraging creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to find novel solutions to existing challenges.
  • Establish and sustain a range of relationships at senior levels, influencing and encouraging cross-functional collaboration.
  • Leverage strategic partnerships across Defence to enhance Defence Australia operations and emerging business capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for optimizing business processes under a risk management approach, eliminating redundancies, and improving overall efficiency and productivity.
  • Implement the Defence Australia Innovation Program, including the framework, roadmap, and governance structure to cement systematic generation of business improvements.
  • Perform program and project management, including complex planning and proposals, risk management, monitoring dependencies, key deliverables, and milestones, and ongoing assessment, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Prepare program briefs, analysis, and reporting to senior Defence stakeholders and committees.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and program communications.
  • Act as a change agent for the development and implementation of new innovations, major business process improvement initiatives, and implement a cultural shift towards continuous improvement to help Defence Australia evolve its services, procedures, capabilities, and products.

The Innovation and Business Process Improvement (IBPI) Directorate plays a vital role within the Financial Change and Integration Branch (FCI), as it takes the lead in driving transformative change through fostering behavioural shifts towards continuous improvement, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving business innovation within Defence Australia.

We are a collaborative group that empowers others to rethink and reshape traditional financial processes by providing the tools, guidance, and support needed for teams to drive their own improvement.

Our mission is to inspire creative solutions, streamline operations, and enhance service delivery through strategic facilitation and partnership.

Requirements
  • A finance professional with experience in finance transformation, change management, business process optimization, or improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment where new ideas and priorities are constantly emerging.
  • Actively engaged on the latest developments in technology and connected with digital/innovation/finance networks to bring fresh ideas into Defence Australia.
  • High levels of integrity and a commitment to act in accordance with APS and Defence values and behaviours.
