About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Scientist to join our team at the National Measurement Institute (NMI). As a Project Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and applying reference methods for certification of carbon isotope ratio of pure organic compounds and in complex organic matrices.

You will work closely with our team to produce and characterise certified reference materials, operate and maintain EA and GC-C-IRMS instrumentation, and prepare complex written reports and present scientific results to stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of high accuracy reference methods and to work with a team of experts in the field of isotope ratio mass spectrometry.

About the Team

The Chemical and Biological Metrology Branch at NMI is responsible for providing measurement standards such as certified reference materials, including pure chemicals, gas standards, matrix materials, and DNA standards. We also co-ordinate proficiency testing programs to assist laboratories assess their ongoing quality and performance.

The Chemical Reference Values team is a team of 15 scientists that develop high accuracy reference methods, which are used in the certification of matrix reference materials and for assignment of values to samples produced for their proficiency testing programs.

Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you will need to have a Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) qualification in chemistry and at least 12 months experience in analytical organic chemistry.

You will also need to be an Australian Citizen and have a Baseline security clearance.
