Position Overview: Financial Assistance Manager

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in Financial Hardship and Financial Assistance Management.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead a diverse team of 7, including roles such as assistant manager, supervisor, financial hardship specialists, and deceased estate administrators.
  • In-depth knowledge of current regulations including ASIC Debt Collections Guidelines, NCCP, Privacy Act, APRA APS 220, and COBCOP, along with IDR and EDR processes.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Role Responsibilities:

As the Financial Assistance Manager, you will oversee the Financial Assistance and Asset Risk Management Department, handling all administrative tasks related to delinquent loans, lines of credit, overdrawn savings, and credit cards.

Your Key Duties Will Include:

  • Creating and implementing best practice policies for collection activities and hardship management.
  • Balancing key performance indicators related to losses and arrears while addressing the needs of members experiencing financial difficulties.
  • Managing the deceased estate function to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and satisfaction of client needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing the Financial Assistance and Asset Risk Management team through mentoring and performance management.
  • Identifying and managing hardship assistance opportunities for members in financial distress.
  • Establishing processes and metrics for effective management of the collections function.
  • Providing comprehensive case management services.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining effective communication with external parties.
  • Reporting on collections functions to management and regulatory authorities.
  • Promoting a risk-aware culture within the organization.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years in a relevant role within the financial services sector, with a strong understanding of collections legislation.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience leading a team of 5 or more.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with compliance and lending teams.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on customer service and results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to empathize and build rapport.
