Primary Care Medical Officer Role

The Primary Care Medical Officer is a pivotal role within the healthcare system, focused on delivering high-quality medical care to patients. This position requires a strong understanding of professional standards, legislation, and policies governing medical practice.

About the Position:

  • As a Primary Care Medical Officer, you will form part of a multidisciplinary team working towards achieving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Defence members. Your key responsibilities will include assessing Defence personnel for fitness for duty and providing care that supports their health and wellbeing pre and post deployments.

  • You will provide medical technical advice to senior officers and healthcare professionals, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care. In addition, you may work in either an outpatient setting or inpatient care setting within a ward.

Requirements:

  • To succeed in this role, you must have current unconditional and unrestricted General registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • You should hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM), or Vocational Registration. At least 2 years' full-time postgraduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years is required.

  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities is essential, as well as current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
