Job Description

The role of Sterilising Department Technician involves the identification, handling, decontamination, packaging, sterilisation and dispatch of Reusable Medical Devices (RMDs). These devices are distributed to various departments and external customers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining a thorough knowledge of instruments/equipment and supplies processed in the sterilising department. They will also need to initiate appropriate action and follow protocols for the decontamination and sterilisation of equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identification, handling, decontamination, packaging, sterilisation and dispatch of RMDs
  • Obtaining a thorough knowledge of instruments/equipment and supplies processed in the sterilising department
  • Initiating appropriate action and following protocols for the decontamination and sterilisation of equipment
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of and experience in sterilising technology and/or qualifications in or willingness to undertake a Sterilising Technology course
  • Ability to obtain a thorough knowledge of infection control principles applicable to the sterilisation department processes and procedures
