Job Opportunity

The Native Title and Priority Reforms Branch is seeking a dynamic leader to drive our work in native title policy, advice, negotiations, and litigation.

About the Role:

  • Lead the administration of the Native Title Act 1993, including progressing native title reforms and advising on native title related issues.
  • Drive the department's First Nations policy strategy and coordination, including the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
  • Manage the Commonwealth's involvement in native title claims and provide input into native title adjacent litigation.
  • Develop and implement native title compensation policy for the Commonwealth and engage with States and Territories.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide complex legal advice and negotiate agreements related to native title.
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to drive priority reform areas under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
  3. Embed cultural competence practices within the organization and externally.
  4. Foster inclusive and diverse work environments.
