We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Maintenance Officer to join our team at the State Government of Victoria, Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the general appearance of our school facilities, including basic maintenance and repairs tasks, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake general maintenance and minor works around the school buildings and grounds to a high standard.
- Provide additional cleaning when required, including graffiti removal, to ensure the aesthetic of the school buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard.
- Safely operate machinery and equipment as required for this position.
- Maintain safe work practices at all times.
- Ensure safety is maintained within the work area when completing tasks.
- Assess and prioritise job requests in the Maintenance Register.
- Liaise with the Principal and Business Manager on works to be completed.
- Order and purchase goods and equipment as required.
- Ensure Occupational Health and Safety requirements are met whilst working.
- Monitor and report on any security issues.
- Move furniture and equipment as required, including setting up for school events.
- Minor cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Ensure storage areas are in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
- Carry out regular visual inspections of roofs, roof guttering, drains, toilets, sinks and troughs to identify and rectify problems.
- Any other minor repairs, including new locks, minor plumbing and carpentry.
- Application of chemicals as appropriate for the control of weeds and insects.
- General clean up of paths and outdoor areas of the school grounds.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to undertake general maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and follow planned maintenance schedules.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively in a team environment and with a range of people.
- Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated, show initiative.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish strong links with key stakeholders as well as the ability to work through issues constructively.
- A sound knowledge of OHS requirements within the workplace.
- Demonstrated experience and skill in coordinating and determining work priorities required of the Maintenance/Grounds keeper with minimal supervision overseeing contractors.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on maintaining the safety and well-being of our students and staff. The role will require the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
