Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of unpaid carers? Carers NSW is seeking a dedicated and values-driven Volunteer Board Director to help shape the future of support for carers across New South Wales.


This role presents a unique opportunity to use your expertise and leadership to influence strategy, advocate for carers, and ensure their voices are heard at the highest levels. As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a key role in guiding the organisation's direction and achieving its strategic priorities.

  • Peak Non-Government Organisation for Carers: We are the leading voice for carers in NSW, part of the National Carer Network and a member of Carers Australia.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to excellence, a desire to contribute to effective governance, and alignment with our purpose. They will also possess one or more of the following general skills, competencies, and/or experience:


  • lived experience and/or representative of the following demographic groups: carers, live rurally/regionally, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, young person (18-25 years), or from a culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • leadership, vision, and ability to champion our vision
  • an understanding of the principles and practices of effective corporate governance including strategic planning and direction setting
  • sounds understanding of accounting and finance
  • experience in developing strategy and building new revenue sources
  • experience in building partnerships, both corporate and government

Board Responsibilities


The Board oversees the activities of our organisation and draws on the expertise and insights of Directors to achieve its strategic priorities. Meetings are held at least six times a year on the last Thursday of every second month and usually last from three to four hours. In addition, Board workshops may be scheduled from time to time as required.


Directors are appointed as individuals, not as nominees or representatives of organisations or a particular sector. They are not remunerated but their reasonable expenses may be covered.


Eligible applicants will also be required to undertake a satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and hold a current Director ID.
