About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior In-House Lawyer to join our team at MECCA Brands Pty Ltd, working on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support our growth and contribute to various aspects of consumer law.

Reporting directly to the Head of Legal – Commercial, you will be responsible for providing expert advice on consumer law obligations and assisting the business in ensuring compliance with these requirements. Additionally, you will provide support in managing customer queries and complaints, implementing process improvements, and overseeing competitions and events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and advise on consumer law obligations, including product safety, unfair contract terms, and Australian Consumer Law;
  • Assist in the implementation of process improvements to ensure effective complaint handling and customer satisfaction;
  • Support the development and maintenance of MECCA's loyalty program, including reviewing terms and conditions and associated materials;
  • Assist in intellectual property matters, including trademark applications, infringements, and oppositions;
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including services agreements, talent agreements, contractor agreements, and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs);
  • Proactively identify issues related to marketing materials and assist with clearance reviews;
  • Collaborate with other departments to address ad-hoc legal requests and provide education and training to the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification to practise law in Australia;
  • Current unrestricted Australian practising certificate;
  • 2-3 years post-admission experience, preferably in consumer law;
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements;
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks effectively;
  • Able to respond quickly and effectively to changing business demands.
