About the Role

This position reports to the Finance Manager Corporate and we are seeking a Senior Finance Manager with 5-10 years' experience in leading and managing a team in all finance functions, such as planning, reporting, budget preparation and investment.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and accounting standards in managing the Council's finances, including the preparation of budgets, financial statements, and audits.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of financial data to monitor expenditure, revenue, and budget variations, while developing equitable fees and charges.
  • Lead the development of long-term financial strategies and policies that promote financial sustainability and minimise risk for the Council.
  • Manage finance teams and budgets, ensuring accountability, alignment with best practices, and staying informed of trends in local government financial management

Skills and Experience required

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting or a related field, or substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in managing financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking in a medium-sized organisation.
  • Comprehensive finance skills, covering audits, policy development, debt management strategies, legislative compliance, and financial planning within medium-sized organisations.
  • Strong ability to manage direct reports, prioritise workloads, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced financial/budgeting software.
