Job Summary:

The Comminution Technician is a key role within the Weir organization, responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment such as high-pressure grinding rolls, screens, and cone crushers. This position requires a strong technical background and excellent problem-solving skills to ensure the efficient operation of customer sites and the workshop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate a commitment to zero harm behaviors and contribute to the development of a world-class safety culture.
  • Work with the HPGR team to establish and implement a sustainable growth strategy for the allocated Comminution business unit.
  • Provide service and customer support while onsite, ensuring that customer needs are prioritized and satisfied.
  • Manage all onsite maintenance, repair, fault finding, and test tasks as per scopes of work provided.
  • Recommend improvements to the Service Manager to reduce Total Operating Costs (TOC) for customers.
  • Develop strong relationships with key customers to ensure expectations are being met and remedial action is taken to address issues.
  • Exhibit a collaborative approach to ensure that customer needs are prioritized and satisfied to meet set service levels.
  • Provide technical advice to the Site Service Supervisor for service and components for contracts.
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance is conducted to eliminate or reduce plant downtime.
  • Liaise with Area Managers to ensure that installation and commissioning activities are undertaken in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Show flexibility under urgent or breakdown conditions to service customer requirements.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3–4 years relevant technical/trade experience (Minimum Cert III in Mechanical Engineering).
  • Experience working on heavy specialized equipment such as high-pressure grinding rolls, hydraulic, and rotating equipment is highly preferred.
  • Hydraulic knowledge is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Be available for a combination of workshop and field work.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office (Excel and Word) skills.
