About the Role:

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking skilled medical professionals to join the Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Division. This is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults during times of crisis and vulnerability.

The Older Person's Emergency Referral and Assessment (OPERA) Service is a multi-disciplinary service designed to improve access to comprehensive assessment and care planning for older or frail people in the North. OPERA will improve access and flow through the emergency department and hospital system via ED avoidance for in-scope patients and reducing the number of patients admitted to in-hospital beds from RACF and patients aged > 65 years or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders > 50 years.

As a Staff Specialist in this role, you will play a pivotal part in providing comprehensive medical assessments and coordinating care for older patients presenting to the emergency department. Your expertise will be invaluable in identifying and addressing complex health issues, ensuring seamless transitions to appropriate care settings, and promoting optimal functional outcomes.

In this multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate closely with a diverse team of healthcare professionals, including geriatricians, nurses, allied health practitioners, and social workers. Together, you will navigate the intricate challenges of caring for older adults, leveraging your clinical acumen and empathy to deliver person-centred care.

Travel will be required to service patients eligible for NALHN Geriatric Services in the community, residential aged care facilities and hospitals.

To be eligible for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.

Lyell McEwin Hospital – The major hospital in the north and north-east for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics and outpatient services.
