Our Veteran Empowerment Program at The V Centre in Melbourne offers transitional accommodation and support services to empower veterans with complex needs, helping them live a meaningful life with stable accommodation.

About the Role

This role involves engaging with veterans of any age who seek support due to homelessness or risk of homelessness. You will provide holistic support, skill-building, connection to services, and engagement to meet their health and wellbeing needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with participants to provide individualized support and skill-building
  • Connect veterans with services to address their complex needs
  • Improve health and wellbeing through engagement and activities
Requirements

We need someone with a kind and effective communication style who can relate positively with our veteran participants, employees, and stakeholders. Your understanding of veteran needs and culture of peer support and camaraderie will be highly valued. Relevant skills and experience include community work, social services, disability support, life coaching, yoga instruction, and trade skills such as carpentry.

You will also have:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services, Welfare, or AOD (or related experience)
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviors and think clearly in unexpected situations
  • Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Office, client management systems, and internet
  • Current Victorian Driver's license and ability to drive bus/van
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
  • Willingness to undergo a National police check and provide proof of rights to work in Australia
