Job Title: Legal Counsel

This role involves assisting senior legal counsel with corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses.

  • Review marketing material for legal compliance.
  • Provide corporate legal, commercial and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts.
  • Offer insurance product advice and documentation.
  • Interpret statutes and provide advice on legislative reform affecting Avant's business.
  • Support corporate litigation.
  • Provide legal advice on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA.
  • Deliver staff legal training.
  • Support senior lawyers, the General Counsel & Office of the CEO.
Requirements:

To be successful, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent).
  • A current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory.
  • Minimum 3 years' post qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm.
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice.
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial).
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus, including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market.
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills.
  • High level of written and spoken language skills.
  • Understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market.
