About This Role

This role plays a key part in shaping the future of Queensland's ports, overseeing the development of innovative policy initiatives and leading their implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement complex strategic port initiatives, policies, and frameworks, working closely with stakeholders to deliver government priorities.
  • Policy Input: Provide strategic input to Departmental and National initiatives and project activities, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Team Management: Lead a team to identify, research, and analyse issues affecting ports within the transport system, driving effective solutions.
  • Reporting: Prepare briefing notes, reports, and correspondence for senior management and the Minister, providing timely and accurate information.
  • Stakeholder Partnerships: Champion effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic port priorities, fostering collaboration and mutual understanding.
  • Representation: Represent the department on organisational and local issues related to ports and policies, promoting a positive image and advancing departmental interests.

This position reports to the Director (Governance and Ports) and has 2 direct reports.

Requirements:

  • Port Policy Expertise: Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing complex port policy initiatives, with a strong understanding of the sector's dynamics.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, develop and implement strategic plans, and drive cultural change.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Ability to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to the development of best practices and organisational capabilities.
