Fitout Designer Role

Austal is a global shipbuilder, defence prime contractor and maritime technology partner of choice, designing, constructing, and supporting defence and commercial vessels for leading operators.

We are building a skilled team to engage with local industry and supply chains, contributing to complex, large-scale projects that reflect Austal's proven capabilities and trusted performance.

As the fitout designer for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you'll be responsible for providing and supporting the design and drafting of a vessel from concept through to delivery, on time.

The key objectives include:

  • Producing accurate information and documentation, meeting procedural and auditable requirements.
  • Meeting deadlines and construction deliverables.
  • Remaining well acquainted with the task schedule and checking progress and upcoming deliverables.
  • Demonstrating high attention to detail.
  • Producing work of a high quality, consistent with Austal and design & engineering standards.
  • Effectively communicating through drawings, verbal, and written means to necessary parties.
  • Exhibiting a proactive attitude toward innovation and improvement.

The required skills/experience/attributes include:

  • Interior design/outfitting qualifications or equivalent.
  • Design or interior design background.
  • Experience in design within the marine industry.
  • Preparation of design and drawings, including presentations, specifications and reports.
  • Proficient in design software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft office suite.
  • Technical knowledge of fitout products.
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system and ensuring all work is stored in appropriate locations.
  • Good understanding of data and document management principals.

The desirable skills/experience/attributes include:

  • Experience working within a similar position, designing elements of all fitout/outfitting elements on aluminium & steel, high speed vessels.
  • A basic understanding of typical ship mechanical systems, and interface between structural, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • A sound practical and working knowledge of regulatory bodies' rules and regulations.
