At SpaceX, we believe a future where humanity explores the stars is more exciting than one where we remain on Earth.
The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
As a software engineer on the starship software team, you will design, develop, and test software used to control and simulate flight systems. You will collaborate with other engineers to implement and debug software at all layers of our stack.
Aerospace experience is not required; rather, we seek smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on a mission that inspires us.
You will be responsible for developing autonomous software systems and simulations, owning all aspects of software development, and working with counterpart teams to maintain launch and vehicle software.
We follow high software standards and best practices within starship software. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required, or 2+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree.
- Proven skills and knowledge of C++, Rust, or other systems programming languages
- Experience building or working with real-time embedded systems or distributed computing systems
- Strong focus and interest in designing, architecting, and implementing excellent, bug-free software
- Basic knowledge of electronics, controls, fluid systems, motor design, or physical mechanics
- Strong critical thinking and first-principles problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work effectively in a dynamic environment while assuming high levels of responsibility and accountability for software outcomes
