Mechanical Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Operations Manager to lead the management and maintenance of our Antarctic station-based, mobile and stationary machinery.

The successful candidate will have comprehensive trade-specific expertise, knowledge, skills and experience in the operation, maintenance and Antarctic customisation of diesel power generation, low ground pressure tractors and sleds, over-snow vehicles, fuel storage and handling, construction and agricultural machinery, and other mechanical equipment. They will also provide high-level trade-specific leadership and support to station-based trade teams to successfully execute an allocated program of maintenance works.

Responsibilities include:

  • ">
  • Providing operational, maintenance, Antarctic customisation, compliance and safety/environmental risk management expertise for diesel power generation, low ground pressure tractors and sleds, over-snow vehicles, fuel storage and handling, construction and agricultural machinery, and other mechanical equipment;">
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the maintenance teams, both by remote management and on site in Antarctica if required;">
  • Assisting in the resupply of parts and equipment on station;">
  • Leading the development of short, medium and long-term asset maintenance strategies for Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations;">
  • Selecting, specifying and procuring materials and equipment according to an annual budget and organising delivery to station;">
  • Preparing and assessing tender, contract and procurement-related documentation;">
  • Allocating resources for the identified maintenance programs;">
  • Contributing to maintenance management improvement, including failure analysis, work practice development, spare parts provisioning, inventory management, management systems development and implementation;">
  • Identifying asset replacement requirements;">
  • Coordinating technical competence assessment aspects for the recruitment, selection and training of trade or technical expeditioners;">
  • Providing specialised advice about existing and new vehicle types in the areas of performance, capability and serviceability for Antarctic operations;">
  • Providing advice on and monitoring statutory compliance, compliance with Australian Standards (AS) and sound industry practice;">
  • Providing a broad range of advice to stakeholders as necessary for project support including remote power generation and plant;">
  • Conducting investigations into and reporting on incidents, equipment or maintenance practices and managing corrective actions through to completion;">
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with trade staff in Antarctica and with stakeholders including external suppliers and consultants.">
