Our organization is seeking a dedicated professional to fill a vital role in community engagement. As a Community Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote regional community engagement programs optimized for customer needs.

About the Role

This ongoing full-time position is based in Wollongong or other locations by negotiation. The salary will be relative to experience, ranging from $103,961 to $117,290 + super.

The successful candidate will have experience in improving Aboriginal community participation in government programs, the ability to facilitate connections with Aboriginal knowledge holders and community members who care for Country, a passion for facilitating improved opportunities for Aboriginal communities to have their voices heard, and Aboriginal cultural knowledge and connections to heal Country and community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate community engagement strategies that promote regional community engagement programs optimized for customer needs
  • Help position our organization as a leader in community engagement and facilitate enhanced participation in programs
  • Influence effective community engagement program design and delivery by researching and identifying issues, needs, and interests of target audiences
  • Identify and recommend issues impacting on future community engagement strategies, approaches, and programming
  • Provide technical input into accurate and timely preparation of reports, submissions, briefing notes, and correspondence
  • Advise management on development and implementation of regional community engagement strategies, initiatives, and programs

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience in community engagement
  • Experience in preparing and delivering community engagement programs for various stakeholders, particularly rural communities
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and organizations to deliver successful projects
  • Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to team outcomes
  • Capacity to travel as needed
  • Driver's license

Essential Requirements:

  • This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge, or connections are a genuine aspect of the role.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and excellent understanding of Aboriginal community governance and structure.
