Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to key engineering design decisions, review and approval of engineering design packages, and provide technical guidance on the ship build production process.
  • Lead an engineering team through the ship build design process from requirements definition and review, preliminary and detailed design, production implementation, and test & acceptance phases.
  • Review and approval of engineering design packages, within delegated engineering authority.
  • Systems Engineering and Integration.
  • Weight tracking & control.
  • CAD Drawings.
  • Customer liaison and internal design meetings and reporting.
  • Mentoring Junior Naval Architects and Engineers.
  • Development of QA documentation.
  • Manual Writing.
  • Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice.
  • Actively participating in the continued growth of the business.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 10 years' experience in leading teams for an engineering organization in a relevant industry.
  • Highly proficient in CAD programs, efficient technical drawing and drafting skills.
  • Proactive manner demonstrating strong technical aptitude and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment.
  • Previous experience building capability and systems in a team and a developing organisation.
