Job Description:

As a Purchasing Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in driving business forward through strategic product selection and supplier negotiations. Your primary responsibility will be to utilize sales data and feedback from department managers to determine purchasing needs and product selections tailored to customer preferences and local market trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Product Selection: Analyze sales data and customer feedback to identify opportunities for growth and develop strategies to capitalize on these trends.
  2. Market Analysis: Regularly review store sales and inventory reports to stay informed about customer demand and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  3. Supplier Negotiations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms of purchase, supply, and promotions to secure advantageous agreements.
  4. Cost Management: Monitor and control inventory levels to ensure alignment with sales strategies and operational budgets, optimizing stock to maximize sales and reduce overheads.
  5. Sales and Marketing Collaboration: Work closely with marketing and merchandising teams to coordinate promotions and sales strategies, introducing new products effectively and maximizing their appeal to our clientele.
  6. Competitive Analysis: Maintain a thorough understanding of market conditions and competitor activities to anticipate market shifts and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
  7. Profitability Objectives: Implement innovative purchasing and operational strategies to achieve targeted profitability goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in retail buying, particularly in the grocery sector, is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret market data.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
