About the Role

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for leading the Central Desert Regional Council, a Local Government entity operating in the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will establish and maintain a purposeful and passionate organization, creating a working environment that fosters exceptional customer service and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Council's mission, vision, values, policies, accountability, and compliance with relevant Acts, laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Evaluate complex and strategic issues, assess options and risk, and make effective decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with the senior leadership team and elected members to deliver exceptional customer service and community outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of community trends, the environment, and policy implications to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
Requirements
  • Highly developed team building and leadership skills, proven capacity to direct.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and representation skills, with the ability to act as a public spokesperson.
  • Contemporary knowledge of community development and community engagement practice.
  • Deep knowledge of governance and ability to provide high-level advice to Council and its Committee on financial risk, people management, services, disaster management, and organizational continuity.
  • Proven Chief Executive Officer, Director, or Local Government experience, with knowledge of financial management, employee management, continuous improvement, and governance discipline.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders at senior levels in government, industry, and communities, with the capacity to work with councillors, communities, and local stakeholders.
