Job Opportunity:

The Parks Program Officer plays a crucial role in enhancing Hobart's parks and open spaces through strategic planning, contractor coordination, and community engagement.

Duties:

  • Manage external contractors to ensure compliance with City standards and specifications
  • Create the Park Care program, liaising with community groups and organizing weekend activities and rosters
  • Maintain inspection programs for green assets and contribute to long-term park improvement and planting plans
  • Respond professionally to public and elected member enquiries, ensuring all communications are documented appropriately
  • Support high-quality park management through budgeting, policy reviews, and service level documentation

About You:

You are a proactive and organized professional with a strong background in horticulture and parks management. To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A certificate IV in Horticulture (or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing parks operations, including contractor oversight and project delivery
  • Strong horticultural knowledge with the ability to prepare technical specifications and manage procurement processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders, resolve issues, and communicate effectively
  • Proficiency in maintaining asset databases and planning for both short and long-term park improvements
