The Lead Coordinator for Animal Ethics and Biosafety will offer specialized guidance and expert advice on animal ethics and pertinent research policies to essential research stakeholders. This includes collaboration with the Animal Ethics and Institutional Biosafety Committees and senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide executive-level counsel and implement comprehensive policy changes related to animal ethics, biosafety, and biosecurity.
- Oversee and direct the Animal Ethics and Biosafety Advisors to ensure effective administration of the respective committees.
- Manage the efficient operation of the Animal Ethics and Institutional Biosafety Committees, including member recruitment and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure governance, compliance, and policy advice in animal ethics and biosafety, maintaining accessible documentation for researchers.
- Facilitate policy updates and procedural changes in consultation with committee chairs and key stakeholders.
- Oversee the management of renewals, variations, and inspections of relevant licenses and certifications.
- Deliver training sessions for researchers on animal ethics and biosafety protocols.
- Report any breaches of responsible research conduct to the appropriate committees and assist in follow-up investigations.
Qualifications:
- A postgraduate degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in animal research, gene technology, or biomedical research compliance.
- In-depth knowledge of legislation and regulations affecting research involving animals and biological agents.
- Experience in regulatory compliance management, including inspections and audits.
- Strong management and leadership capabilities, fostering a cohesive team environment.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing policies in an academic context.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Capacity to design and deliver effective training programs in animal ethics and biosafety.
- Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment, sharing knowledge across various areas of expertise.
