The role of a Legal Associate is to provide support and assistance to judges in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1). This involves researching cases, points of law, preparing matters for hearing and other related tasks.
A key aspect of this role is assisting judicial officers during court hearings and performing administrative duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing research assistance to judicial officers.
- Assisting with the general operation and day-to-day running of chambers.
- Preparing matters for both the Court and the Judge, including judgment writing.
Selection criteria include:
- Demonstrated legal research, analysis and drafting skills.
- Problem solving skills and ability to evaluate large volumes of information.
- Initiative to work autonomously and take responsibility for progressing work.
This role requires a high standard of ethical behaviour and adaptability to changing situations and priorities. Eligibility includes Australian citizenship and security and character clearance.
