Deaf Communication Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Deaf Communication Specialist to join our team at Box Hill Institute. As an Auslan Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who prefer Auslan as their language of communication.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum NAATI Certified Provisional or Certified Interpreter level and demonstrated experience in interpreting between Auslan and English. You will be responsible for providing professional and accurate interpreting services to students in various settings, including classrooms, meetings, and events.
You will work closely with Disability Liaison staff, Teachers, Tutors, Learning Support Workers, Customer Service staff, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and support for students. Your excellent Auslan language skills, knowledge of Deaf culture, and ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds will be essential in this role.
A successful Deaf Communication Specialist at Box Hill Institute will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret between Auslan and English in various settings, including classrooms, meetings, and events
- Work collaboratively with Disability Liaison staff, Teachers, Tutors, Learning Support Workers, Customer Service staff, and other stakeholders to provide comprehensive support for students
- Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge
