The Opportunity

We are seeking a Tax Solicitor to join our Band 1 and award-winning corporate practice to be based in Melbourne. You will work with leading Partners and other Tax Partners and Associates across our national and expanding Tax practice.

Your Role

You will undertake a range of corporate tax work that supports national and international clients on complex commercial transactions. Your day could typically involve:

  • Assisting clients navigate complex tax issues on transactions.
  • Negotiating with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) when required.
  • Handling transactions and investments across our Australian Equity Capital Markets (ECM), M&A, Funds, Energy and Resources, and Property groups.
  • You may be advising clients on a range of corporate tax law from corporate reorganisations, trusts, initial public offerings, secondary offerings, spin-offs, joint ventures, employee share schemes, and executive remuneration, through to partnerships.
  • While your focus will be on corporate-related work, you will form part of a broad tax offering spanning the Corporate, Finance, and Disputes practice groups, and will work closely with your tax colleagues in Australia and internationally.
  • The role will not encompass tax compliance work.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An unrestricted Australian or New Zealand practicing certificate.
  • 2+ years' experience across a range of corporate tax matters (international tax, M&A, or corporate tax) in a top-tier or mid-tier private practice, top-tier accounting firm, or large corporate.
  • Possess an excellent academic record, coupled with strong legal skills and a practical mindset.
  • Ideally have commenced your Masters in Taxation.
  • Deliver work to a high standard and with strong attention to detail.
  • Be accustomed to working to tight timeframes, in both a collaborative and autonomous manner.
  • Enjoy mentoring Graduate Solicitors and Clerks.
  • Be committed to providing an exceptional experience for our clients, prioritising empathy, simplicity, and commerciality.
