The role of a Housing Support Specialist plays a vital part in supporting individuals and families who require housing assistance or reside in public housing.

This specialist undertakes a range of tasks relating to tenancy and property management, as well as the provision of housing advice and assistance. These tasks include:

  • Managing and maintaining tenancies
  • Providing support and information on services available to clients
  • Identifying and assessing clients' housing needs and their eligibility for services
  • Allocating rental properties to eligible applicants
  • Visiting and working with tenants to resolve tenancy issues
  • Ensuring maintenance work is carried out on tenants' homes

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Assessing clients' needs and providing comprehensive advice on housing options from established policy, procedures, and standards.
  • Making appropriate referrals to internal or external support service providers in order to assist clients with their short-term housing needs.
  • Preparing routine cases with well-established procedures and representing the department at tribunals.

This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines.

In this role, you will be working closely with a network of community workers and organisations that share the responsibility for working with vulnerable people to promote and support their wellbeing.
