About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Urban Planner to join our team in the City Strategy & Design department. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse and high-impact projects that shape the future of our city — from major rezonings and State Significant Developments to the creation of planning policies and strategies that improve liveability, sustainability, and design outcomes.

  • You will be responsible for leading the assessment of complex planning proposals and planning policy reviews.
  • Negotiate Planning Agreements to secure the best outcomes for our community.
  • Contribute to the preparation, implementation, and review of land use strategies, planning instruments, and urban design policy.
  • Represent the council's interests on State infrastructure and development projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage specialist consultants, and engage with community and government stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and advice for the council and the Local Planning Panel.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning, urban design, or a related discipline.
  • A proven track record in strategic planning, policy development, and complex assessment work.
  • A strong understanding of planning legislation, State planning policies, and the plan-making process.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating agreements and achieving positive community outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
