Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our Product Data Science team. As a Data Scientist, you will work with colleagues and subject matter experts to refine complex problems using scientific thinking, algorithms, and data analysis.

You will build and operate beautiful, intelligent products that delight our users every day. Your primary responsibility will be to immerse yourself in Xero's data, wrangle complex and messy data to contribute to our shared understanding of the value contained in our data stores.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply sound scientific methods to drive product development, including model development, evaluation, and proof-of-concept design.
  • Lead in hypothesis-driven experimentation and deliver measurable impact through holdouts.
  • Maintain high personal coding standards and collaborate with scientists and engineers to produce robust and reproducible code.
  • Work together with engineers to maintain and operate end-to-end pipelines supporting data-intensive applications at Xero.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Education:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar analytics role.
  • Experience with data querying languages, scripting languages, and/or statistical/mathematical software.

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to grasp mathematical concepts underlying the domains above.
  • Strong communication skills to tailor messages for peers and stakeholders.
